About

The sermon was the final cut. Now let's go back behind the scenes of our High Holy Day sermons.

A High Holy Day sermon is necessarily a journey with a destination. In preparing each sermon, a rabbi encounters far more texts, interpretations, stories, questions, and possibilities than can ever fit into the final draft.

So what happens when we take those texts back out and give them more time?

Join Rabbi Rabbi Miller for The Sermons: Director’s Cut, a series of deeper explorations into the Jewish texts behind the High Holy Day sermons.

We'll revisit some of the texts that shaped the sermons, look more closely at the sources that made it into the final version, and explore other texts and interpretations that opened doors the sermon didn't have time to walk through.

Together we'll examine biblical and rabbinic sources, historical and literary contexts, competing interpretations, surprising connections, and the questions…
