Newsletter February 9th, 2026 Together, we're #keepingitsacred...
There's a public speaking motto: "Don't tell them, show them." Showing people what you're talking about helps people's imaginations understand what you're trying to convey. Last night, Benito “Bad Bunny” Antonio Martinez Ocasio masterfully showed every one of the estimated 135M+ viewers of his Super Bowl Halftime Show a blissful vision of a utopian future he is working towards. (View it HERE). His musical and visual artistry painted the picture for us, and in doing so, he invited us to consider bringing his vision to life, together. First, he sanctified the field space creating a magical place where negativity and denigration ceased to exist. Instead, he offered us a vision of people building together, marking life’s sacred occasions together, and celebrating together. I was taken aback by how breathtaking this vision was, and I am so grateful that it came to life on one of the world’s biggest stages. It gave back viewers was a new definition of what success looks like. Success is not in domination. Success was redefined as the flourishing of the human capacity for goodness. Success was redefined as the experience of savoring life lived well in community. Success was redefined as building trust (that trust fall was amazing!). Success was redefined as humanity working together across the political borders of nations, and extending into love for the land and love for the people. Honestly, his performance felt like a kind of exorcism of television screens across the world that have been infected with devastating and nauseating images for a long and relentless time now. And it woke us up to see just how far the disease that normalizes a brutal world of violence, insecurity, helplessness, war, suffering, hatred, strife, denigration and destruction, had advanced. To cure the sickness that has taken over, Bad Bunny prescribed a powerful tool of healing: love. And not just some superficial expression. He prescribed having a deep satisfaction in enjoying the preciousness of life and all around us: the sugar cane fields and the soil that brought it, the people who care, elders who share wisdom, youth who dream, human ingenuity and culture, and the experience of love. Love of self and of living in partnership and harmony with all that is around. This was especially fitting way to start off a week that will culminate in love on Valentine's Day. And, I noticed also that the victory was not a celebration of riches or mass consumption of luxury. There were no gold chains or fur coats or VIP packages that would catapult this vision into the stratosphere beyond reach of the everyday person. Instead, he painted a picture that invites each of us to contribute our part to the dream; it is within our reach if we would only take one step forward to bring it into reality. And, he helped with the first step- his incredible performance painted the picture of what we might yet work to bring to reality. It served to reorient us to one another; coalesce all living in the Americas. I found that at each moment of the performance, another layer of humanity was honored and celebrated. He invited us to the party. To the future.
Taking in the performance was a spiritual experience. And the vision echoed the biblical description of the building of the Temple (in Exodus 25) with everyone bringing of their skills, talents, resources, to create a place where The One God could dwell among the people. The performance was punctuated by the few English expressions amidst the beautiful rhythms of the Spanish language, conveyed through the written word:The first on a jumbotron with the truism:
“The only thing more powerful than hate is love;”And, then on a football just before it was spiked in a punctuated (mic- drop moment!) feeling of victory and accomplishment that occurs when we build this kind of world together. The message?
“Together, we are America.”Benito, thank you for showing how together we can work towards this vision of success attained together. Together, we’re keeping it sacred…

The SGBC explores books in monthly meetings, with topics and discussions centered on the questions that arise for those who are new to Judaism.
With a collaborative approach to book discussion, we envision this book club as a place to make new friends, have nuanced and meaningful discussions, and deepen our relationships with Judaism.
We are now reading Heart of a Stranger by Angela Buchdahl. We will review Chapters 7-19 on February 9th. Please join us.
MORNING SHABBAT
FEBRUARY 28TH 10AM PT/1PM ET – Give yourself the gift of space to reflect and rejuvenate in community with monthly Shabbat Services. Rabbi Miller and possibly Max Winer will lead the community with Jewish thought and sacred song. This month we are mixing it up, and meeting on Shabbat morning instead of our regular Friday night-- we are hoping to do a hamantaschen bake that day-- mmmm! This will precede a kids singalong service.

FEBRUARY 17TH 9AM PT/12PM ET -- A new KITS Club is forming and you’re invited. Join our KITS Social Action in LA Club— gather with like-minded folks looking to create community and support one another’s work for social justice in Los Angeles from a place of Jewish values and uplifting human dignity. Founded in 2024, Boston University’s annual “Conference on the Jewish Left” gathers together scholars, students, and global partners of the Jewish left. At a time when foundational principles of justice and democracy are under attack, the conference provides an educational space to bridge the academic-community divide, and to explore the Jewish left’s values, institutions, and impact.

HEALING CIRCLE & TALMUD TEXT STUDY EVERY THURSDAY
JOIN our healing circle EVERY THURSDAY at 10:30am PT/1:30pm ET holding space for all looking for prayers for healing.
Immediately following that: at 11am PT/2pm ET, join us as we jump into a conversation with the rabbinic sages of old. We enjoy studying a page of Talmud every day and reviewing together every Thursday, adding our perspectives and the relevance to our own lives as we go along. We enjoy participation from participants across the world who span the spectrum of race, gender, class, age, and connection to Jewish thought.

NOW CASTING RURAL JEWISH INDIVIDUALS & FAMILIES!
From a KITS connection (passing on this information for your review): We are seeking Jewish individuals and families living in rural or small-town America to participate in a social media series exploring what Jewish life looks like outside major cities. We're especially interested in people with unique, personal backstories - those living Jewish lives that may be unconventional, unexpected, or shaped by their surroundings. This includes (but is not limited to) individuals and families who are:
In interfaith or inter-cultural relationships
Practicing Judaism alongside other religious traditions
Navigating Jewish identity in places with little or no Jewish infrastructure
Creating community in creative or nontraditional ways
