Setting A Refresh

Newsletter August 14, 2023 Together, we're #keepingitsacred...

Robert Fulghum wrote a book called, All I Really Need to Know, I Learned in Kindergarten. I always loved this observation-- because it rings so true. Kindergarten is where we learn to play fair, clean up our own mess, and say you're sorry when you hurt someone. And also, I would add, we learn to take a break as the calendar includes intentional times of Winter break, Spring break, and Summer break.

Now, as Summer break concludes for so many students in the northern hemisphere, we are offered one last pause to reflect on what we gained from it. The chance to reset our minds, and get out of our routines. To notice what is going on around us. To assess what is working well for us and to re-imagine how our lives would be best arranged in the year ahead.

This week's heading back to school coincides with the start of the Jewish new month of Elul. This is a month meant to inspire us to reflect upon our past year, and again re-orgainze ourselves for goodness in the year to come.

In the Keeping It Sacred calendar, it is also a time of celebrating our organizational anniversary with an adult confirmation ceremony-- giving us each a chance to recommit and confirm our engagement in Jewish life in the year ahead, appreciating the year that has just passed. Please join us Sunday, August 20 at 10am PT/1pm ET as we reflect on the goodness experienced in the past year, and reaffirm our commitment to Jewish learning moving forward.
