The Halfway Point

Newsletter September 18, 2023 Together, we're #keepingitsacred...

Mazal tov to all the Daf Yomi scholars- this Wednesday, we will have officially completed our 1356th page of Talmud, with only 1355 pages left to go! That’s right, we will hit the halfway point of over 44 months of consecutive study!

We are halfway through this marathon and that's something to be proud of. We are making our way through the sea of Talmud one day at a time, one page at a time. And that takes discipline.

The rabbis were a big fan of discipline- more specifically of the formation of good habits; of making good behaviors a regular practice.

This is why they wanted us to begin each and every day with gratitudes. And why they wanted us to greet every person with a cheerful countenance. This is why they said it is better to give $100 of tzedakah/charity as $10 each week for 10 weeks rather than giving one lump sum of $100. Why? Because they wanted us to be in the habit of giving. To feel the reward of doing good each day.

As this is a new year, I invite you to consider what habits do you want to form this year? Do you want to renew your commitment to studying a page each day with us (anyone can join in at any time)? Would you like to sign up to contribute a recurring donation of tzedakah to support our sacred work each month?

We are what we do in life, and now at the start of the new year is the perfect time to contemplate what habits we want to form and values we want to express in this new year.

This is how we’re #keepingitsacred

Together, we're #keepingitsacred...
