Is anyone else getting emails letting them know that it is time for back to school sales already? Or have you seen Halloween decorations in CVS yet? People are excited!
And you know what I’m excited for? The High Holy Days are soon approaching— and it is never too early to begin to make plans. The rabbis of old knew that we would need to schedule time into our busy calendars to reflect and think about what kind of expectations we’d like to set for the new year. It is a time when we consider what has transpired, and forge hope to envision a future we all want to live in.
This year, Cantorial Soloist Rachel Rothman and I will again thoughtfully design a program to lead us on this journey. This year, we will do lead online and all Yom Kippur programming will also be hybrid in person and online. We will draw from our tradition and infuse it with relevance to today. We already have a lot to reflect upon and will have even more come October.
So, let’s reserve space on our calendar now to give ourselves time to reflect and be with our community leading up to and in the new year.
Together we will consider: What did this past year bring to us? How have we responded? And, what future do we expect to build together in this rapidly shifting landscape of life?
This is how we will keep it sacred.
Together, we’re keeping it sacred.
