Sharing Our Light

Newsletter December 4, 2023 Together, we're #keepingitsacred...

Hanukkah begins THIS FRIDAY NIGHT! A holiday that celebrates the Maccabee's rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem after it had been taken over by the Assyrians in 164 BCE. And so, this holiday allows us to consider our lives and what we are rededicating our lives to in the year ahead. In fact, the Hebrew word "Hanukkah" means "rededication."

This is a great opportunity to ask ourselves: what have we once committed to but have allowed to fall by the wayside? Why did that happen and how can we rededicate ourselves to it with greater commitment and to set ourselves up for success in being able to follow through?

It might be an intention to spend more time with loved ones, commitment to study regularly, or something else.

I love how the Jewish tradition recognizes that our intentions might be good but the nature of the world is that things fall off our calendar. And therefore, Jewish holidays build in space for us to re-align with our best intentions. Judaism understands the quality of human nature and set us up to succeed.

As we rededicate ourselves, we bring into the world more of our own light, and more of our own goodness, for ourselves and the world.

May we each take a moment during the week of Hanukkah to pause, reflect, and shine! And please join us for our various programs listed below-- especially our program on the Shared Society of the Jezreel Valley 12/13, our daily Hanukkah Sound Bytes each night of Hanukkah 12/8-12/14, and especially our communal Hanukkah Celebration 12/15. This is how we are Keeping It Sacred.
